What is it about the DOL? They have attempted to make the whole process easier, but it takes just as long to get your new replacement license.

Washington has started a new program where you can get your license renewed right through the internet. The only way to do this is receive a letter from the DOL which contains a secret code.  This is a good thing as long as you are not a procrastinator, like me, and don’t lose your “special” letter.

As usual, I put this off until the last minute and lost the letter. I figured “no problem” I’ll give them a call, get my number and renew my license and skip the hughe lines. After 1/2 hour of searching the web site for a phone number, I finally found one and gave them a call. I talked to a robotic woman who informed me that unless I had my original letter I was “out of luck” . She explained this number was secret and told me that if she gave out the number, it would no longer be a secret.

WHAT??? If I am not mistaken, all Washington State drivers licenses already have a unique ID on them. Why do we need a second secret code? I dont get it.

    • After thinking about this for a while, the only think I can come up with is they allow you to change your address or something through the internet. That way someone could get your drivers license number, change your address to theirs and then renew.

      Has anyone renewed online before?
