Here are a few pictures from a recent night out at the Noc Noc Club in Seattle.  You just have to love a club that serves beer in 40′s wrapped in a brown paper bag.

THE HEADCAT (featuring LEMMY KILMISTER (Motorhead),SLIM JIM PHANTOM (The Stray Cats) and DANNY B. HARVEY) Bob Wayne & The Outlaw Carnies Redneck Girlfriend Hard Money Saints

Well, shut my Yankee mouth, cuz RNGF are an entirely different shitkicking beast. Taking cues from Steve Earle’s formidable hard-ass hillbilly vision, Redneck Girlfriend are a country band first and foremost, but they just play it so loud that it sounds like metal. Subject matter covers the moonshine swilling backporch gamut- boozin’ and losin’, girls and the guns you shoot ‘em with- and the pedal steel and slide guitar gets the same kinda workout unusually reserved for wah-wahs and cowbells. I’ve heard lots of bands attempt something like this, and fail miserably-Redneck Girlfriend, however, get it exactly right. Just like in rock and roll, the key to good country music is that you’ve got to play it like you mean it, and even though this ‘un was recorded in Seattle, I am absolutely convinced of every Honky Tonk lament on here. The Charlie Rich cover helps, too. If I had a Pabst Blue Ribbon, I’d be raising it high right about now. Since I don’t, a sincere “Yee-fuckin-haw!” is gonna have to do.

  • Now I’m jonesing for the fest

Posted on September 22nd, 2008 Kirk 1 comment

After that last Oktoberfest post, I am jonesing for a good fest beer.  Luckily this Wednesday at the Red House, they are featuring some Oktoberfest beers.  It is on the Event calendar.

If you have never been to the Red House before its kind of a cool little place.  The walls are full of wine and a few rooms are dedicated to beers from all over the world.  Most Wednesdays they have either beer or wine tasting.  It costs $20 but that gets you samples of everything and something to eat.

You can click on the graphic to see their web site and learn a little more about them.

It goes from 6-8pm on September 24th, so who needs a beer and is coming with me?
