Oyster Run 2011 – Southenders plan your route
Posted on September 22nd, 2011 No commentsIf you are coming from the south end and your route includes I405 to get to the Oyster Run, you may want to take a look at the WSDOT traffic alerts.
Major closures affecting I-405 this weekend
Drivers should anticipate congestion throughout Puget Sound this weekend due to several large construction projects and special events. WSDOT encourages drivers to plan ahead for closures and allow extra travel time.
I-405 Bellevue - Northbound I-405 from N.E. 8th to SR 520 will be closed beginning 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, to 4 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26. Southbound I-405 will remain open. Crews will be putting the finishing touches on the new braided ramps designed to alleviate congestion and improve safety. Suggested detour routes are I-90 to Bellevue Way, and I-90 to 148th Ave S.E.
I-5 & I-405, and SR 525 Lynnwood - The southbound I-5 on-ramp from SR 525 will close at 9 p.m., Friday, Sept. 23. The southbound I-5 on-ramp from I-405 will also close at 11 p.m. Both ramps will reopen by 5 a.m., Monday, Sept. 26. Drivers will follow signed detours. Crews will complete new on-ramps connecting to southbound I-5. When opened, the ramps are designed to eliminate lane-weaving from merging traffic as well as reduce the risk of sideswipes and rear-end collisions.

The Olympia Toy Run brings motorcyclists together for a very worthy purpose: the joy of a child receiving a gift at Christmas. All the toys and money are donated to The Salvation Army for distribution to needy kids through its Toy n’ Joy Shop. Strapped to bikes four abreast in row after row are lots and lots of brand new children’s toys. Gleaming bikes sport different names and badges and colors and their riders range from all-season diehards to weekend enthusiasts. For this day, we are one sister/brotherhood of riders thinking of the smiles our toys will bring to kids’ faces. The roaring thrum of thousands of motorcycle engines fills the crisp December air. But this is not a day just for motorcyclists as tens of thousands of spectators line the parade route, excitedly waving, calling and whistling to the riders. Both directions of the street are closed to all but motorcyclists, yet drivers on side streets honk and wave. Though riders come from all over to participate in this event, it’s a day to be proud of Olympia, the fellowship that brings us together and the goal we accomplish. It’s thrilling, breathtaking, moving…and downright fun.
We hope you’ll join us in helping bring smiles to children’s faces at Christmas. In the meantime, we wish you safe and happy motoring!
